Clean Water Paddle on the Potomac!

UPDATE #1: Looks like we will have beautiful weather this weekend! If you are interested in renting a doubles kayak please say so in the comment section. Registration starts at 10am and we get in the water a little after 11am. We will paddle to the Key Bridge and on the way back, we'll stop at Roosevelt Island for a quick trash cleanup, so bring water shoes if you want to get deep in there. The total distance is just under 2 miles.

Don't want to get wet? Surfrider needs several volunteers to stay on land, either at Thompson's or at Roosevelt Island. They need a couple of dockmasters, a photographer, someone to run the info booth, and a cleanup coordinator. If you're interested send an email to dcchapter [at] surfrider [dot] org.

Let's join the Surfrider Foundation's DC Chapter as they hold their 16th annual Paddle for Clean Water!

We will meet at Thompson Boat Center at 10am (look for the red balloon)!
Kayaks can be rented for:
- Singles (sit-ins) rent for $10/hr or $28/day.
- Doubles (Mainstream) rent for $17/hr or $40/day.

We will paddle from Thompson Boat Center to the Key Bridge and back, stopping over at Roosevelt Island for a quick cleanup. Refreshments, educational materials, and giveaways will be available from Surfrider, REI, and other local groups. A great way to spend a Saturday, volunteering, cleaning up the environment, getting exercise, and making new friends! More information can be found here... http://surfrider.org/...

The event will end at 2pm. Afterwards, I would like to check out the DC VegFest at George Washington University. There will be food, information, speakers, and entertainment going on until 6pm. You are more than welcome to join me as I continue my day of health! More information on the DC VegFest here... http://dcvegfest.com/...

Closest Metro is Foggy Bottom (Orange/Blue Line), I suggest metro / cabbing it (esp. during rush hour). I also recommend using wmata for travel plans.

Hey Michelle - if you have never kayaked before then I would suggest getting a double kayak with someone. This way you can learn without being on your own.

Thank you to everyone who made it out today! We had perfect weather, the water was great, and we made a difference! The Veg Fest we attended afterwards was a nice way to end the day. Hope to see you all again at the next event!
